Wi-Fi Setup: Linux

Follow the instructions below to access the Wi-Fi network from a Linux device at VSC locations. These include CCV academic centers and VTSU campuses. 

This should work for all distros that use Network Manager Applet as their network manager. (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, etc.)

• Make sure that you have wireless drivers installed. You should be able to check “Enable Wireless” by right clicking on the network manager on your panel.
• Next left click on the network manager. You should see VSC listed. Click on it.
• A box should appear to edit the connection settings
  • Security is set to WPA and WPA2 Enterprise
  • Authentication is set to Protected EAP (PEAP)
  • Leave Anonymous Identity and Domain blank
  • CA Certificate is none
  • Check the box that says “CA-certificate not needed”
  • PEAP Version should be “Automatic”
  • Inner Authentication is set to MSCHAPv2
  • Username and Password are your VSC credentials
• You should now be connected to the wireless, and it should remember all this the next time so you’ll only have to choose VSC from the list if it doesn’t automatically connect.

Please note: when you change your VSC password (password expiration details) you will need to change it for this connection, too. It should prompt when you try to connect, but if not, right click the network manager, choose “Edit Connections”, double-click the VSC Wi-Fi connection, and you can enter the new password on the “Wireless Connection Security” tab.
