Your VSC password has a lifespan that is determined by your user type—student passwords last for 8 months, while faculty and staff passwords are only good for 4 months. Once this lifespan has been exceeded you will be forced to reset your VSC password. 15 days before your password expires you will start to receive email notifications alerting you to this pending expiration. It is best to change your password before it expires, as once it expires you will lose access to all the VSC services attached to that account (wifi, email, Canvas, etc). Additionally, before resetting your password it is imperative to remove/forget any saved instances of your password (for example, the wifi connection on your cell phone). Failure to forget these saved passwords will result in an account lockout, which will require a call to the Helpdesk to resolve. Outlined below are instructions for resetting your password. If you have any trouble with these processes please contact the Helpdesk.
Expired/Forgotten password
If you forgot your password or did not change it before the expiration date you’ll need to work through our self-service password reset process:
- Navigate to https://portal.vsc.edu and click the “Forgot My Password” link, located underneath the Password field

- You will be prompted for some personal information including your College ID number, which can normally be found printed on your ID card. If you do not know your College ID you must call the Helpdesk to obtain that information
- After verifying your identity choose where you’d like your PIN sent (either text message or email)
- Enter that PIN on the site as prompted, then finally follow the instructions to set a new password (note the complexity requirements on the right)
Preemptive Password Reset
If you know your current password and would like to change it before it expires follow these steps:
- Navigate to https://password.vsc.edu
- Sign in using your current credentials
- Click on the “My Account” tab
- Use the prompts to set and confirm a new password
