Workday is replacing UKG at the Vermont State Colleges for managing HR, payroll, time off, benefits, and finance activities. It replaces several older systems with a single, integrated system. The information on this page will provide key steps and tips to help you get started when logging in for the first time.
Accessing Workday
Navigate to the Workday login link available on the VSC Portal. Sign in using your VSC credentials that are used to sign in to Canvas, email, and other VSC systems.
If you are unable to log in then please:
- Verify your username and password works in other systems like the Portal
- Try a different browser (Chrome is recommended, but Workday is compatible with Edge and Firefox)
- Open an IT Help Desk ticket for technical assistance if you are still receiving an authentication issue.
Navigating Workday
Workday is designed to be search-driven and task-focused. You can find everything hosted in Workday by one of the following options:
- Search Bar (center / top of page): Find tasks, reports, and actions
- Menu (On the left side of the home page): Access areas such as Pay, Benefits, Time Off, and Expenses
- Inbox (at the top right of home page): Complete tasks assigned to you
Tip: If you are unsure where to go, use the search bar to enter what you are trying to do.
First Day Checklist
There are several things that each person should do when they first log in to Workday. Please complete the following actions:
- Review and update your personal and contact information
- Set up or confirm your direct deposit information
- Add a payment election for expenses like travel reimbursement
- Submit any upcoming or planned time off requests. Workday refers to time off as “Absence”
- Check your Workday Inbox and complete any assigned tasks. You can find this in the middle of the homepage, or at the top right of the screen in “My Tasks”.
- (Optional) Add a profile photo
Everyone is also welcome to view a “Workday Day One Checklist” page on our project SharePoint site for more detailed information.
Help and Support
It is not uncommon that new users to Workday may require additional support during initial adoption so please do not hesitate to reach out for additional help where needed. Asking or searching for help using the proper system and department will help you get the quickest answer to your question or resolution to your issue. Everyone within the VSC is welcome to:
- Review job aids, prerecorded training sessions, and additional training materials available on the Workday SharePoint site training page
- Submit a Workday case for process or “how-to” questions
- Contact the IT Help Desk for login or technical issues
