As a security measure your VSC account will get locked out if 5 or more incorrect passwords are supplied when attempting to log in. Since we utilize Single Sign On if your account gets locked out while trying to access one system (Canvas, for example) you will be locked out of all other systems that use that same set of credentials (wifi, the Portal, campus computers, etc). To unlock your account you’ll need to contact the Helpdesk, which can unlock your account after verifying your identity.
In most cases account locks are not caused by a user mis-typing their password, but rather a service that relies on saved credentials that have not been updated. The most common culprit is the wifi connections on personal devices (cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc). If you change your password but do not update the password on these devices they will lock your account once they come in contact with a VSC wireless network. The best way to avoid these lock outs is to “forget” the network connection on these devices BEFORE resetting your password. Linked below are instructions for forgetting the wireless network on various devices. If you continue to have trouble with lock outs please contact the Helpdesk and we’ll be happy to investigate.
