While using a desktop mail application (such as Outlook) provides the most robust experience, your VSC email can also be accessed via the web and mobile apps.
Outlook: Microsoft’s Outlook is the only fully supported desktop mail application that is compatible with your VSC email account. You can download Outlook for free here (sign in using your VSC credentials). Once downloaded and installed simply open Outlook and enter your VSC email address to begin (username@vsc.edu). You will be redirected to the standard VSC login page—just enter your credentials and Outlook will take care of the rest. As Outlook downloads a full copy of your mailbox it may take some time for all your emails to show up, which will happen in the background as long as Outlook is open.
For more information outlining the installation steps you can follow this LINK to our support article.
For more information on using Outlook, check out Microsoft’s Support Page
Web Access: Open the browser of your choice and navigate to https://office.com . Click the “Sign In” button on the left-hand side, and enter your VSC email address (username@vsc.edu) when prompted. This page will then redirect you to the standard VSC login page, where you can use your VSC credentials to sign in. This page can be accessed from any device with an active internet connection, just make sure to log out when using public devices!
Mobile App: Downloading the Microsoft Outlook App provides the best experience when using mobile devices. You can use the appropriate link below to download the Outlook App from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store:
Once downloaded, simply launch the app to get started. It will first prompt you for your VSC email address (username@vsc.edu), and then redirect you to the standard VSC login page. Log in using your VSC credentials, then sit tight as your mail is downloaded. Once logged in the Outlook App will not prompt you to sign in again when accessing your mail, so mobile devices may prompt you to set a lock-screen PIN/password to keep your device and email account secure.
Accessing your VSC email using other email applications:
Microsoft is depreciating support for basic authentication [ POP / IMAP type connections ] to their email service on October 1st 2022. You can find more information about what that means in their solutions center by following this LINK.
Statistically, the most affected apps are going to be the mobile mail apps for iOS and Android devices. iOS version 11 and later supports Microsoft Modern Authentication and should continue to function. Android OS does not support Microsoft Modern Authentication and will stop connecting once Microsoft ends support.
VSC IT strives for the best experience for both students and employees, but does not have the capacity to support every mail program that is currently available. VSC IT recommends using Outlook because we fully support Outlook for Windows, Mac, and mobile devices, but can only put our best effort forth to support other applications that support modern authentication. If you would like VSC IT help vet a program for security and functionality purposes, you can open a service desk ticket by using the link at the top of this page or by going to https://servicedesk.vsc.edu.
